Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is an opportunity to reach the base camp of the world’s third tallest peak along a rugged mountain path, excellent for trekkers who love solitude. Mt. Kanchenjunga, located in Nepal’s extreme north-east corner, is widely regarded as one of the world’s most stunning mountain massifs. Kanchenjunga’s name means ‘Five Treasures of the Great Snow’ and refers to the five summits that make up the mountain.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp

The circuit trip begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. The long trek on a less busy trail also provides us with a rare glimpse into rural Nepalese life in the country’s eastern area. See the world’s third-largest peak up close on this challenging 21-day trek along Nepal’s famous Kanchenjunga Circuit trek. Kanchenjunga is least visited of all in the fast east Nepal.  There are now newly build simple tea houses available along the trail.

The Kanchenjunga Circuit walk traverses both the north and south base camps of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain at 8,586 metres. It is located in the extreme eastern edge of Nepal, on the border with Sikkim, a small Himalayan state in northeastern India. Kanchenjunga was thought to be the highest mountain in the world until the mid-1800s.

  • North Circuit: Taking trekkers closer to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, this route offers spectacular views of the north face of Kanchenjunga and its surrounding peaks.
  • South Circuit: This route takes you to the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, which offers stunning views of the south face of the mountain.

Spend some time exploring the capital of Kathmandu, then make your way deep into the soaring Himalaya to set off on foot from Taplejung. With few crowds and endless spectacular scenery, you’ll trek between rustic teahouses as you make your way to the North and South Kanchenjunga Base Camps—reaching a dizzying altitude of 16,863 feet (5,140 m).
